Research Essentials: Metrics Week 1

ACU Library’s Research Engagement team is running their Research Essentials skills sessions again in 2025. Researchers are encouraged to keep an eye on the Library Training and Events page and sign up to any and all sessions of interest.

All session times are listed for ACT/NSW/Vic time zones.

Metrics Week 1 aims to introduce you to the types of metrics you can use in grant applications, journal selection, academic promotion or any situation that requires evidence of research performance.

These metric sessions will have a workbook for you and will be recorded. Register to receive the recording and the workbook.

Metrics 1.1 Journal Metrics, 1 – 1:30pm, Tuesday 22 April

This 30-minute session will explain how to find and interpret a range of journal metrics including:

  • JIF
  • Citescore
  • Q1 journals and rankings in categories
  • SciMago Journal Rankings

Use our pre-provided workbook to find journal metrics and create narrative statements to support your claims of publication impact.

Metrics 1.2 Author Metrics, 1 – 1:30pm, Wednesday 23 April

How can I tell how well I am performing? Suitable for researchers in citation disciplines, this 30-minute session uses a workbook to step you through obtaining author metrics from Scopus, such as:

  • H-Index
  • Publication and citation counts
  • Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI)
  • Author position

Create narrative statements to support your claims of your researcher impact.

Metrics 1.3 Article Metrics, 1 – 1:30pm, Thursday 24 April

This 30-minute session, suitable for researchers in citation disciplines, helps you identify your top-performing papers and why. We help you craft statements using article metrics from Scopus and Web of Science to highlight citation and collaboration impact.
