Celebrating 25 years at ACU

Congratulations to Associate Professor Nasir Butrous, who is this month celebrating 25 years of service at ACU.

This occasion also coincides with the Business School celebrating 25 years at the Brisbane Campus.

Associate Professor Butrous began working at ACU in 1993, commencing in the role of Lecturer and foundation Bachelor of Business Course Coordinator at the Brisbane Campus.

Over the past 25 years he has worked in a range of roles across ACU, including Senior Lecturer and foundation Head of the former School of Business and Informatics and Associate Professor in Management, School of Business Queensland.

Since July 2013, Associate Professor Butrous has been the Deputy Head of the Peter Faber Business School at the Melbourne Campus. In September 2016 he was appointed as Deputy National Head of the Peter Faber Business School, based in Melbourne.

Throughout his time with ACU, Professor Butrous has made significant contributions to the University.

He has been a member of the Faculty Board for more than ten years, was Brisbane Campus Community Engagement Coordinator for five years, was Academic Board member for two years, and was a member of the University Senate for two years. Professor Butrous has also been acting PVC Quality and Engagement for various times and durations throughout 2003-2007.

Professor Butrous has been actively involved in campus life and has been involved with more than 20 university-wide and campus committees, including the McAuley Advisory Committee, Banyo Consultative Committee, McAuley Student Discipline Committee,  McAuley Community Engagement Committee, St Patrick’s student conduct designated officer and Melbourne Advisory Committee.

Over his 25 years at ACU, Professor Butrous has been actively involved in and led University projects, has supported events such as World Youth Day Sydney in 2008 and the Q150 celebrations in 2008/2009 (Catholic Archdiocese, Anglican Archdiocese and Brisbane City Council celebrating 150 years), has contributed to policy formation across his faculty, contributed to development of the former School of Business and Informatics as foundation Head of School, has been involved in church policy advisory bodies and led community advisory bodies.

“It is an honour to be part of and able to serve the Australian Catholic University and its communities over the years and grateful to the many opportunities that were provided to me that enabled me to grow holistically,” Professor Butrous said.

“Meeting many colleagues and working collaboratively with them to make a difference in the life of many students and the wider community is one of my proudest achievements while working at ACU.”

“I will always remember the smile on the faces of the Business Indigenous students at Weemala when they were handed top desk and laptop computers as part of the engagement project between ACU, Brisbane Airport Corporation, The Smith Family and Green Computers,” Professor Butrous said.  “Their smiles brought tears of joy and a sense of achievement to me.”

National Head of the Peter Faber Business School, Professor Susan Dann, congratulated Associate Professor Butrous and thanked him for this service to ACU over the past 25 years.
