ACU campuses are preparing to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through a series of NAIDOC activities from 19 – 23 August, and staff are invited to participate.
NAIDOC stands for the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee and NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to commemorate history, unify communities, and to share cultural celebrations with the rest of the nation.
NAIDOC Week is officially held around the nation in July, but ACU marks NAIDOC at the beginning of Semester 2 when students have returned. The University will hold a series of events to celebrate this year’s NAIDOC theme ‘VOICE, TREATY, TRUTH. Let’s work together for a shared future’.
ACU’s Vice-Chancellor Greg Craven says he looks forward to attending NAIDOC events at the North Sydney Campus.
“I encourage everyone to get involved in their local events, and share in celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.” he said.
“Acknowledging and experiencing the richness of Australia’s ancient and evolving cultures through NAIDOC celebrations is a key part of ACU’s Reconciliation Action Plan.”
