Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Theology and Philosophy Professor David Sim last week celebrated 25 years of service to ACU.
A graduate of Kings College London, where he completed his PhD in the area of New Testament Studies, Professor Sim began his ACU career at the McAuley at Banyo Campus in Brisbane. He was to the fore in developing curricular initiatives in the then fledgling disciplines of Theology and Studies of Religion.
Five years later, Professor Sim utilised the flexible working arrangements provided by the University to move to Melbourne, where he swiftly established himself as one of the world’s leading authorities on the Gospel of Matthew.
The author of three books, the editor of five and with over seventy peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters listed in his CV, Professor Sim’s status as a scholar was confirmed by his election to the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 2014. Promotion to full-Professor of the University soon followed.
Professor Sim currently oversees the research portfolio within the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy and works closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Pro Vice-Chancellor Research to support the University’s goals and objectives in the 2204 (Religion and Religious Studies) and 2203 (Philosophy) Fields of Research.
In this role Professor Sim also oversees candidature for higher degrees by research and continues to supervise PhD students, including several from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
A colleague to all, and a mentor for many, Professor Sim has been a vibrant presence within the Faculty and the University since his initial appointment. We congratulate him on his service and wish him continued success and happiness in his ongoing work.
