Join an online celebration to mark the graduation of almost 8,000 ACU students this Saturday 28 November at 5pm AEDT.
The university was not able to conduct its Autumn and Spring in-person graduation ceremonies due to COVID-19. All graduating students have been conferred in-absentia during 2020, and ACU will formally recognise their achievements in the online celebration on Saturday, inviting families and friends to share their success.
Staff are also invited to celebrate with the graduating Class of 2020. There is no need to register to attend the event – simply visit the Graduation 2020 website on the night. You will also be able to post messages of congratulations in the ACU Graduation 2020 Facebook group or on Instagram using the hashtag #ACUGrad2020.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Greg Craven will address the graduates during the celebration, which will feature elements of a traditional graduation ceremony, including a guest speaker and a student vote of thanks.
The Reverend Graham Long AM, Pastor Emeritus of the Wayside Chapel in Sydney, will deliver the occasional address.
Professor Craven said that, while an online celebration cannot replicate a graduation ceremony, it was important that the university paid tribute to the graduating students in meeting such a significant milestone as the completion of their degree.
“Under any circumstances, completing a university degree takes enormous strength of character, hard work and commitment. These are not normal circumstances, and we are even more proud than ever of the ability of our students to dig deep, produce quality work, and to finish their studies.
“I congratulate all our 2020 graduates and thank all our academic staff for supporting them during their studies at ACU. I commend them on their achievement and know they will apply the same dedication to their work and lives beyond their studies.”
The online celebration is one of the alternative ways the Graduations Office, with support from colleagues across ACU, has developed to celebrate the achievements of this year’s graduates.
