Join the PM Glynn Institute for the launch of Ethos on Thursday 9 December, with guest speaker Chris Uhlmann, political editor for Nine News, speaking on the topic of ‘identity crisis’.
Ethos is a new series of major events focused on the big public ethics issues of the day, and what they mean for the future of Australia.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Zlatko Skrbis will launch Ethos at the livestreamed event in Canberra.
Chris Uhlmann believes we are facing an identity crisis, which involves a loss of faith in Western institutions. Uhlmann will discuss the need for a new sense of shared identity if we are to defend the freedoms we have in the 21st century and contest with authoritarian regimes, led by China.
Following the keynote address, Professor Skrbis will moderate a discussion between Mr Uhlmann and CEO of the Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre Rachael Falk.
Each year will see a number of Ethos events in different locations.
The first Ethos 2022 event will look at the role of social media in Australian society: the ethical challenges it poses for politics, debate and wellbeing, and what social accountability means for social media.
A second Ethos 2022 event will discuss the changing nature of work: the shifts in values that are reshaping our expectations of work and our attitudes to it, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Date: Thursday 9 December 2021
Time: 6.30pm–8pm (AEDT)
