A message from the Interim Provost Professor Meg Stuart: We will conduct the Academic Workload Policy Review in two phases throughout 2023-2024.
In 2023, the first phase aims to update the existing Academic Workload Policy to bring it into line with the ACU Staff Enterprise Agreement 2022-2025 and explore areas for improvement. For example, the project will identify areas where teaching workload allocation may be inequitable. It will also revise research workload allocation guidelines with focus on clear benchmarks, a transparent process, and useful feedback. We then aim to support the strategic execution of Vision 2033 through innovation in the second phase, expected to be in place for 2025 workload allocation.
As chair of the Academic Workload Review Governance Group, part of my role is to oversee that the aims of the review ensure workloads align with ACU’s mission and strategic priorities, enact relevant university plans, and uphold regulatory requirements and compliance. We adopt these goals in line with promoting that the allocation of workload reflects consistency with what academics do, while ensuring workload costs are appropriate and predictable.
It is hoped that the principles which guide workload allocation will promote clear and consistent processes, maintain accountability and transparency, and allow plenty of opportunity to provide feedback.
Consultation with academic staff is a critical part of this review. I welcome your initial feedback on the current Academic Workload Policy. This survey invites you to provide feedback on the current teaching workload allocations. We will continue to share opportunities for feedback on all areas of workload as the review progresses.
