A message from Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) Kelly Humphrey.
I am thrilled to invite you to join in the celebrations for ACU NAIDOC Week, from 19 to 23 August. This is an opportunity for our ACU community to unite with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, staff, and communities.
This year's theme, "Keep the Fires Burning. Loud, Blak, and Proud," resonates with our cultures' vibrant spirit and enduring resilience.
ACU NAIDOC Week is held during the semester (following the official NAIDOC Week in July) to allow students to participate. It is a time for learning, celebrating, and participating in rich, unique and resilient Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
Each of our campuses will host various events throughout the week, including workshops, movie screenings, and cultural activities. You can see all the details of the events at your campus in the schedule below. This is a wonderful chance to deepen your understanding, forge meaningful connections, and celebrate the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and communities.
ACU staff and students are also invited to attend an online event on Friday 23 August at 11 am, to hear from Campaign Director of YES23 Dean Parkin.
Mr Parkin is from the Quandamooka peoples of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) in Queensland. From 2020 to 2023, he was focused on achieving a successful referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament as the CEO of Australians for Indigenous Constitutional Recognition and Campaign Director of YES23.
When: Friday 23 August,11am -12pm
Where: MS Teams
I encourage you to join the festivities and participate in the diverse range of events that ACU NAIDOC Week offers. Your participation will enrich your experience here at ACU and contribute to the collective celebration of First People's incredible cultures.
Let's come together to learn and celebrate, keeping the fires of culture, community, and connection burning brightly.
