Turnitin enhanced similarity report

Learn about Turnitin’s Beta view, featuring a new interface, colour-coded text matching categories, and AI writing report enhancements to better identify AI-generated content in student submissions.

What is the “Beta view” of Turnitin’s similarity report?

In June 2024, Turnitin introduced a new Beta view of the similarity report which features a more open interface and four colour-coded text matching categories:

  • not cited/quoted
  • missing quotations
  • missing citations
  • cited/quoted
Users can toggle between the Beta and Classic view using the button in the top left corner of the report. Please note the Classic view will remain available while Turnitin gathers feedback to improve the Beta view and refine the product.

Changes to the Artificial Intelligence (AI) writing report

The AI writing report now provides a breakdown of text predicted as "AI-generated only" and "AI-generated text that was AI-paraphrased." This new feature can help in identifying how a student may have incorporated AI-generated work into their submission.

Referring cases for potential academic misconduct

Please remember that the AI indicator in Turnitin is a useful tool to flag potential AI use however, it cannot be used as the sole evidence to forward an allegation of potential misconduct. Cases lodged in SAMMS without additional indications of AI use will be dismissed by the Academic Integrity Team.

Please read the Turnitin AI Indicator Checklist and Best practice supporting evidence guides
