Research Essentials skills sessions

ACU Library’s Research Engagement team is running their Research Essentials skills sessions again in 2025. Researchers are encouraged to keep an eye on the Library Training and Events page and sign up to any and all sessions of interest.

Our second week of metrics sessions builds upon our sessions in April and further demonstrates how you can find evidence of research performance through citations.

If you can’t attend, you can still register to receive a recording and any supporting material.

Metrics 2.1 Who’s citing your work (1pm - 1.30pm, Wednesday 7 May)

In this 30-minute session we view citation data from Scopus to analyse citations of your publications. Who's citing my work, from where, and why?

Suitable for ECRs and established researchers who are interested in finding evidence of international and discipline reach, policy impact through citations and a look at attention from outside academia, for ex. media attention.

Create narrative statements to use for your promotion or grant application.

Metrics 2.2 Benchmarking in Incites (1pm - 1.30pm, Thursday 8 May)

Learn how to benchmark your performance against other entities, using Incites and focusing on Wen of Science categories and Field of Research (FoR) code filters.

Metrics 2.3 Benchmarking in SciVal (1pm - 1.30pm, Friday 9 May)

In this session, SciVal is used to conduct a benchmarking activity, and to create narrative statements to support claims of research performance.

Measuring Research Impact (1pm - 1.45pm, Friday 16 May)

Our session on Research Impact looks at how you can measure your impact, when citation metrics do not tell the whole story.

This session, suitable for all researchers though particularly in HASS disciplines, covers:

  • planning for impact
  • identifying the end users of your research
  • engaging with research users and relevant interested groups
  • tools to track engagement
  • planning for policy change
  • collecting evidence of research impact
