Message from the Provost Professor Julie Cogin.
This week we mourn the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis. A champion for the poor and marginalised, an advocate for the environment, and a beacon for social justice and human dignity, his loss is deeply felt by the community, but his legacy will endure.
I hope the Easter break brought you rest, renewal, and meaningful time with loved ones. Easter invites us to reflect on hope—a hope rooted in renewal, compassion, and our shared commitment to the common good. As we journey through 2025 and progress towards Vision 2033, this moment is a timely reminder of the enduring values that guide us as a Catholic university.
Across ACU, our community continues to bring these values to life. From housing to healthcare to education, our colleagues are confronting complex social challenges and offering solutions grounded in human dignity. The recent “Priced Out, Locked Out: Housing and Hope” panel, reflects these values. As housing stress remains a national concern, this dialogue contributes to the broader social conversation—centred on justice and human flourishing.
Internationally, our academic mission continues to respond to pressing needs. The recent symposium on vulnerability and healthcare showcased research that places dignity at its core—from interreligious dialogue in conflict zones, to vaccine trial ethics, to aged care justice. These efforts demonstrate our commitment to building a more compassionate and equitable world.
These initiatives reflect the depth of our impact and the calibre of our people.
I invite you to join us for the upcoming Professorial Lecture Series: Brisbane (1 July), Melbourne (16 July), and North Sydney (19 August). These events honour our newest Professors and the knowledge they contribute to our mission.
Finally, as we approach Anzac Day on Friday 25 April, we pause to honour the sacrifice of those who have served. Their legacy challenges us to lead with courage and to support our veterans through ongoing research and outreach. I encourage all to attend commemorations at our campuses ahead of Friday.
Thank you for all you do in service of others,
Julie Cogin
