About the Session
Unconscious bias relates to the mental shortcuts our brain uses to make snap decisions and judgements about other people in the workplace, generally based on a variety of personal characteristics. This workshop is designed to bring awareness to unconscious bias and its potential consequences in the workplace. Participants will learn key strategies to deal with unconscious bias and support a culture of diversity and inclusion at work.
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop an understanding of unconscious bias.
- Explore the psychology behind unconscious bias and why we have it.
- Identify the impact and potential consequences of unconscious bias in the workplace.
- Recognise the most common types of biases and how each one specifically influences our thinking.
- Gain strategies for effectively managing unconscious bias to support a more diverse & inclusive workplace for everyone.

These workshops are available to all staff. They are not mandatory for casual staff.
Casual staff must obtain prior approval from their supervisor or manager to attend the training. For casual Academic staff such approval is required from the National Head of School or nominated supervisor (consistent with point 23. of the Employment of Sessional Academic Staff Policy)
The Faculty or Unit is responsible for paying the casual staff member for the time while they attend any non-mandatory professional development.
