Goodbye Skype - hello Teams

Microsoft has announced Teams will replace Skype for Business as their supported telephony system. To make sure ACU continues to use the best and most secure calling available, and unlimited access to meetings and chat in one system, we’re making the switch to Microsoft Teams for voice, meetings and chat.

By 27 April, all staff will move to Teams for chat and meetings.

What does this mean for you?

By 27 April, we will have migrated everyone from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams. We will then be phasing out Skype for Business and removing it from your computers. Microsoft Teams will then become the only video conferencing tool used at ACU, simplifying how we connect and collaborate.

  • All your favourite Skype functions and more will be available in Teams. Check out this article for tips on how to perform your favourite Skype functions in Teams.
  • All your Skype meetings will automatically become Teams meetings and you will not need to re-create existing meetings.
  • Teams integrates directly with purposely-designed Meeting Room Systems.
  • Your Skype chat history won’t move into Teams, but it will still be available in your conversation folder in Outlook.

Using Teams for external calls

If you currently use Skype for external calls, or have voicemail, you will be automatically be able to do the same in Microsoft Teams.

  • Your ACU phone number will move from Skype into Teams, and will stay the same.
  • If you could do it in Skype, you will be able to dial internal, external, and international phone numbers through Teams.
  • Classroom, meeting room, and other location-based phonelines will not move to Teams.
  • There is nothing you need to do to prepare.
