It is with sadness that we report of the passing of one of ACU’s early leaders, with the recent death of Emeritus Professor Muredach Dynan. Emeritus Professor Dynan was appointed as Catholic College of Education Sydney’s first Deputy Principal in 1986 and subsequently appointed as Acting Principal in 1990.
The Senate of Australian Catholic University in early 1991 confirmed the structure of the university, and Professor Dynan was confirmed as Principal of the NSW Division for the period to 1995.
Professor Dynan was appointed as ACU’s first Pro-Vice-Chancellor, located in Brisbane and with responsibility for Quality Assurance and Outreach, a role he held until 2003. He was awarded Emeritus Professor in November 2004.
Educated in Northern Ireland and later graduating with a PhD from Murdoch University, Professor Dynan was a distinguished scholar in the field of secondary school education. After returning to Northern Ireland following his retirement from ACU, he remained active in the field of education as Chair of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust Northern Ireland.
May he rest in peace.
