UN International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

Friday 2 December is the United Nations International Day for the Abolition of Slavery.

On this day, ACU raises awareness of contemporary forms of slavery around the world and the many initiatives to end this human rights abuse.

What is modern about modern slavery?

We encourage everyone to watch this What Is Modern about Modern Slavery? animation produced in collaboration with the ACU Stakeholder Engaged Scholarship Unit and recently introduced into the student curriculum.

ACU is actively engaged in responding to modern slavery through its participation in the Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network (ACAN) and the Australian Universities Procurement Network (AUPN).

Modern slavery is an umbrella term that includes:

  • slavery
  • servitude
  • human trafficking
  • forced marriage
  • forced labour
  • debt bondage
  • child labour
  • deceptive recruiting for labour or services.
