Alumni Awards winner series

Each year we celebrate the exceptional contribution, leadership, and innovation of our outstanding alumni around the globe through six nomination categories:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community
  • Community Engagement
  • International Contribution
  • Young Alumni of the Year
  • Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Leadership
  • Research or Scholarship.

Over the next three weeks, we'll introduce our Alumni Awards 2021 winners and share how they’re making a difference in their communities across the world.

This week, the Advancement and Alumni team is delighted to announce the winners of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Award, Nicola Barker, and the Community Engagement Award, Bronwyn Sheehan OAM.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Award 

Nicola Barker is a Murawarii and Wangkumara woman who completed a Bachelor of Social Work in 2019. Nicola's passion lies in education, justice, health, and the wellbeing of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Community Engagement Award

Bronwyn Sheehan OAM studied nursing at ACU and worked in Brisbane hospitals for many years as a dedicated nurse and midwife. Bronwyn founded The Pyjama Foundation in 2004 to help and empower children in care achieve their dreams through learning.
